OPERATIONS MANAGER – GRAIN/SEED PROCESSING

We are seeking a leader within our team with experience in grains or similar commodities to drive operational strategies that maximise plant availability, reliability, throughput and profitability.

The Operations Manager is responsible for operational strategies being adopted with excellence. Integral to the success of the role will be the relationship with the CEO, Seed Manager and the Production team.

Duties and Responsibilities include;

  • Ensuring production scheduling maximises the efficiency of throughout by:
  • Considering all orders and staffing across the Company; and
  • Working with the team to prioritise these requirements into an effective and efficient production flow.
  • Working with the Seed Manager and Grain Trader to maximise the daily, monthly, and yearly capacity of the plant. Managing competing interests within the organisation, towards the best long-term outcome for the company.
  • Not compromising on safety or quality.
  • Effectively maintaining the workflow and ensuring all scheduled controls and tasks are completed in a timely manner by:
    • Strategic allocation of human and physical resources.
    • Monitoring the process steps in place.
    • Observing control points and equipment.
    • After appropriate consultation, revising schedules if and as required; and
    • Having a strong logistics and human resource plan to maximise our chance of success.
    • Completing timely and accurate stock-takes.

Qualifications you should have;

  • Relevant work experience
  • OKR or similar system, high competence
  • High-level skills in the HACCAP or similar QA system
  • Must have/get Forklift, working at heights, confined spaces licenses
  • Must have/train to become an Authorised Officer under Australian Quarantine
  • Have or obtain a fumigation license

MAINTENANCE AND FABRICATION LEAD – GRAIN HANDLING DIVISION

Bring your experience in maintenance, repair, and fabrication within an industrial or agricultural setting and make a big difference today.

The Maintenance and Fabrication Lead plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and efficiency of the grain handling facilities and equipment. This position involves performing maintenance, repairs, and fabrication tasks on various grain handling machinery, systems, and infrastructure.

Key duties include;

  • Equipment maintenance and repair
  • Fabrication and welding
  • Breakdown response
  • Documentation and reporting
  • Safety and compliance
  • Continuous improvement
  • Inventory management

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proven experience in maintenance, repair, and fabrication within an industrial or agricultural setting.
  • Proficiency in welding techniques such as Oxy cutting, MIG and stick welding.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • An ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics would be a positive but not essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and communication purposes.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Shepherd Grain is a young, vibrant grain and seed trading business targeting Mung beans, other pulses and grains.

Located in Moree, we are ideally placed on the inland rail corridor to service markets throughout Eastern Australia and internationally.

We have a number of accommodation options from billeting with other staff or you can readily take up a private rental in town, only a 10 minute drive away. We are very flexible and happy to help find the right mix that suits your transport, budget and lifestyle.

What can you see or do?
There is plenty of work to do, but we have fun too! We can organise extracurricular activities to enhance your Aussie Bush experience – we have taken our temporary workers fishing, clay pigeon shooting, hunting, camping and cooking on a fire.
